Welcome to St. Ignatius College Prep Wolfpack Sailing
ABOUT: High School Sailing is a co-ed, two-season sport taking place in both the fall and the spring. Some student-athletes choose to participate in both seasons, while others choose either fall or spring, which gives them the flexibility to participate in other sports. Tryouts are held each August, and athletes are placed on one of three teams: Sonar, JV, or varsity. Practices are held after school at Chicago Yacht Club from 4-7 pm during the seasons (August-November and March-May).
SIZE: The team at St. Ignatius averages between 12 - 30 sailors; however, our sailors are part of a much larger team from all across the city. Approximately 75 sailors from five other High Schools (The Latin School, Lycee Francais, New Trier, DePaul College Prep, and Walter Payton) all train, race, and attend “chalk talk” learning sessions with St. Ignatius Sailing. In addition, these Chicago Yacht Club teams are part of an even larger family of sailors at other clubs, including Jones College Prep, Lake Forest, Loyola, Lane Tech, among others, giving these student-athletes a massive network of friends and competitors that span the entire city and suburbs of Chicago.
ALUMNI: Alumni of our program have gone on to sail at some of the best universities in the country, including Georgetown, Stanford, Dartmouth, Boston University, Fordham, University of California Santa Barbara, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, and Old Dominion. SICP Sailing is proud to constantly have one of the highest GPAs of any team on campus!
SUCCESS: St. Ignatius Sailing continues to excel in the midwest and nationally. The 2023 Fall and 2024 Spring seasons include a 1st place at the Illinois State Championship, 3rd place at the MISSA Central Great Lakes Qualifier, 4th place at the MISSA Baker Central Qualifier, 6th place at the MISSA Girls National Qualifier, and a 6th place at the MISSA Great Lakes Championship. In the single-handed laser, Avery Baldwin secured a 2nd place at the MISSA Girls Cressy Qualifier, and a 3rd place at the ISSA Cressy Singlehanded National Championship. In addition, our JV team was incredibly active with multiple local regattas and a fantastic win at our home club this spring.
